BEFORE THE BEGINNING___________________________________
The land was once peaceful and calm, having no tension between the original three kingdoms: Averice, Thaentos, and Virenza. The boundaries were hardly existent, as everyone was friendly aside from small personal brawls among the horses. Of course, nothing is perfect forever, and just when it seemed everything was at its best, all hell broke loose. No one knows exactly what happened, but the kingdoms began to separate, and the borders became more defined between them. The three kingdoms now defined the island, each with their own rules and set of morals. Averice was the kingdom known for its compassion and understanding. Virenza, acting as Averice's opposite, was nothing but cruel and sadistic. Thaentos was home to those who fit no extreme, but tended to stay neutral through all. Friendship turned to communication, which eventually turned to nothing but politics. War was far from their minds, but friendship was a thing of the past.
Years passed. The horses at this point grew up separate from the other kingdoms, and rarely did others venture past their own borders. However, something new began to shake the horses from under their skin. There was an incident in Virenza. The Virenza Queen, Tahni, gave birth to healthy twins - unusual. Strange. Different. Frightening. The eldest was a colt. He was sturdy and strong. He had twice as much strength and muscle as any usual newborn. And he was so handsome, with shinning vibrant eyes and the face of a competitor. His mother was pleased, as almost immediately after birth, he was standing fearlessly at her side. But there was something that she couldn't help but fear. Wings protruded from his shoulders, folded gently backward and falling lifelessly at his side. They appeared so beautiful, but Tahni had never seen such a creature. What would Kahn, King of Virenza, think about his new son?
Before her thoughts could continue, another was born. This child was a petite filly, but by no means of a weak stature. She was beautiful, charming, and seemingly delicate. Her balance was flawless. It took her longer to attempt to stand, but once she did, her fluid movements were incomparable. But she, too, had wings penetrating from her shoulders. Tahni, though afraid of the strange situation, still considered her children as strong and fit. She named her son Vaskre, and her daughter Viatrix. She was overall pleased, but the idea of her children having wings still troubled her mind. She brought the foals back to their father, who, too, thought them strange, but he valued their difference. He looked at them as a strength and beautiful addition to his kingdom.
A month later, a young mare gave birth to a colt: Ryken. This colt, too, was strong and healthy, but not near so as Vaskre. He, too, was different in strange, mysterious ways. But unlike the twins, he had no wings. Instead, he displayed a nub-like bone rounded on his forehead. It was small in comparison to the twins, but still curious. He, too, was accepted into the kingdom, as he was also a part of the royal herd. Kahn saw these children as an advantage, and therefore accepted them. But he was also fearful, unaware of their abilities. The three foals grew close, and before long they were more than friends, but an alliance. These three began venturing about the kingdom, and eventually into the neighboring kingdom's lands, in search of another that was different like them. Eventually they found one: a young stallion from Thaentos. He, too, had a horn striking from the bone of his skull and extending from his forehead. His name was Kalan.
Upon their fourth birthdays, the four broke away from their homes and created their own kingdom, which they called Kavelor. They made residence of the south-eastern portion of the island, where four lands made up their newly acquired home. Each took claim of one land. Viatrix, being the only female, found herself comfortable with the desolate island just off the coast of the South Beach. She thought herself comfortable with the protection of three stallions standing between her and the entrance of Kavelor - not that she needed it. In fact, it was the idea of having the most beautiful part of the land that enchanted her, as well as the privacy she so needed. Vaskre made home of the Dead Wood. Kalan set his home in the Marshes, and Ryken claimed the South Beach. Together, these four began showing Esseria the face of chaos. They defined the act of terror, and instilled within each kingdom a fear that brought about the rise in power to the Kavelor kingdom. With their new strength, the four rulers found an interest in collecting those like themselves. They began stealing, enlisting, and enslaving all the mythicals they could find - which, at first, was very few. Slowly but surely, the time of the three kingdoms faded, and a new era of fear had begun.
